Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), Delhi
Year 1963: A proposal by Dr. M.K.Chaudhuri to set up an institute under
the name of "Institute for Planning and Administration of National Economy"
was forwarded to Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, the then Prime Minister and Chairman,
Planning Commission, Government of India. The institute was committed to cutting
edge research and education on economics, entrepreneurship and management.
A study tour was undertaken by Dr. M.K.Chaudhuri during 1964-65 to acquire
first hand knowledge about the working of similar institutions in Europe.
A working paper on Regional Planning was circulated to leading academicians
under the name of "Indian Institute of Planning" in 1969.
Year 1973: The founder Director resigned from professorship of Indian Institute
of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) and established IIPM in New Delhi. The first
residential full-time post graduate diploma programme commenced on 12th August,
1974, with students selected through admission tests-cum-inter views held
in Delhi, Kolkata, Bombay and Bangalore.
Year 2006: IIPM has grown to become the world's largest business school with
5000 postgraduate management students in nine campuses across seven of India's
largest cities, with placement offices in San Francisco, New York, London,
Dubai and Singapore.
